The Face of Android: Featured in Google's European Campaign

androidgooglepressfuelio

"Android is the most open platform. Without Android there would be no Fuelio, and without Fuelio I wouldn't have the job I do now."

That was the quote that ran across full-page ads in some of the world's most prestigious publications, including Financial Times, The Economist, and Wall Street Journal.

In Poland, the campaign was featured in major titles like Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Puls Biznesu, and Rzeczpospolita.

Beyond the print campaign, Fuelio and my story were also featured directly on the official Android.com website as part of their "Android Stories" series, showcasing developers who use the platform to build successful global businesses.

The Campaign

In late 2016, Google launched a massive campaign across Europe called "Android Stories". The goal was to showcase how the open ecosystem of Android empowers individuals and businesses across the continent to innovate and grow.

Out of thousands of developers and success stories, they chose Fuelio—and me—as one of the primary faces of the campaign.

A Surreal Experience

It’s hard to describe the feeling of opening a magazine like The Economist and seeing your own face looking back at you, telling your story to millions of readers.

The campaign highlighted my journey from a hobbyist developer solving a personal problem (tracking fuel costs) to building a global product acquired by Sygic. It wasn't just about the app; it was about the opportunity that mobile platforms create for anyone with an idea and the drive to build it.

Impact

This campaign was a defining moment. It placed Fuelio on the global stage not just as a "useful app," but as a prime example of European innovation.

  • Global Reach: Featured in major political and business journals.
  • Message: Highlighted the economic and personal impact of the app economy.
  • Validation: Confirmed that what we were building in Poland had significance on a world stage.

For a developer who started coding in a garage, becoming the face of a platform used by billions was the ultimate validation.
